What is Maker Space?
Maker Space is an exploration station, a place to have a hands-on interaction with Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) concepts. Presented as problems and challenges students create, build, and reimagine solutions in a variety of forms. Bridges, buildings, motorized inventions, computer programs, electronic circuits and artistic creations are all products of these exploration activities.
Research shows that children learn through play. The Maker Space goal is to provide the stimulation, motivation and the tools needed to play with ideas, and allow them to arrive at a unique solution. A paradigm shift from copying the teacher’s version of a project to creating their own are the 21st century skills students need, and the primary purpose of Madigan Library Maker Space.
